At the core it's all about storytelling, and how the story is worth your time because basic stories have a beginning, middle and end. It's what we're taught in primary school. I'm looking at what makes a good story? I have found it's by making the audience care, about the film or the characters or subject, also does just stay to film it's used in everything to get a reaction, this is not by fluke or coincidence, it's by DESIGN!
So as I create my FIlm trailer as my practical, what is the story telling the audience?
I'm showing them cybernetics and how awesome and cool these are with real facts to back up the verisimilitude(believability) but then ask the the question is this good or bad? provoking the audience to care about this all of a sudden which is by design! as Andrew Stanton quotes " It confirmed something I really had a hunch on, is that the audience actually wants to work for their meal. They just don't want to know that they're doing that. That's your job as a storyteller, is to hide the fact that you're making them work for their meal. We're born problem solvers. We're compelled to deduce and to deduct, because that's what we do in real life. It's this well-organized absence of information that draws us in. " This is what makes Andrew one of the head story tellers at Pixar.
Therfore in my dissertation I've looked at storytelling, analysed from different films about how they tell the story and from this learning placed it into my practical piece.
