OUDF 503 3rd time lucky with dragon.

I've decided to not use Zbrush and just maya this time and the results are better.

This is the dragon after a hour and I'm already loving it and not finding a problem with it

Just need to texture it and then onto animating it.

OUDF 503 Trying to import into Maya

After save this model in .OBJ

I found out that this model has over 1 million faces and took a day and a bit to load onto maya and is not really usable now in Maya.

OUDF 503 Disaster in ZBrush

So I've found out in ZBrush If I save the file in comes out in a 2.5D which can't be remodelled in ZBrush which means I have to restart.
I have learnt I need to save the file as a .obj which keeps the 3D data together.

So restarting the dragon I made two slightly different designs
This is the first one with just basic shape and horns, I like this because I can place eyes in later and the horns on the chin are just reference to place later , I dislike the shape size because it's big enough compared to the dragon concepts.

This is one similar to above but adjusting the horns to a different set, I like these ones but I feel it's not right on this model but maybe on a different one.

From following a guide on how to make Dragons I followed it loosely due to me not making it like the person who I was following so I made adjustments like the nose and horns, but this I still don't like ids the size of the head and neck.

 Adjusting the head size.

Final Versions

I really like my final version and by using basic spikes in the head I can place polygons over the top to create horns in Maya then animate the head of the dragon.

Responsive Using ZBrush

For this I thought it was best to use ZBrush which is a modelling tool designed to do this type of thing.

I started with the basic sphere in Zbrush and modelled the head of the dragon from there.
This is what i came up with after learning the tutorials. I really like this because it's very effective and quick however it starts to tear and stretch some of the polygon faces so I need to fix this later on.

Side View

After another hour or so I managed to make this first design.
I really like this with all the spikes and the detail is noticeable, I still haven't been able to change the level of detail sadly but when I do it will look much better.

OUDF503 - Responsive

In this module its aiming for the students to work cross-course, understanding cross-disciplinary approaches, work collaboratively or respond to an external event or activity with a significant pedagogic value.

I think this module will be interesting because it will help us or encourage us to go and get our names out there. I think from reading the brief it would be the best thing in my opinion to do a few small projects which are very good, therefore showing more of a variety then just one big project.

A few outcomes I hope to achieve is to learn more about the work of film/editing and learn the work flow of researching/investigating to creating the ideas and showing them to the boss/commissioner, keeping to brief, and self-management skills in managing my workloads and meeting deadlines; but not just technical but social skills in being confident and saying "yes I can do this", not "erm maybe yeah"

This module will be also be exploring the possibilities of using transmedia theories, processes and techniques. This should be interesting.
