What is crit analysis? notes

When you think of this you tend to scratch your head and wonder why and what is the meaning of crit analysis
"an appraisal based on careful analytical evaluation"
Being objective follows parallel to critical analysis in that you are not biased, but looking at all the facts.
In the gathering of theorist they don't have to be the block buster ones. Any theorist works as king as the point
they are making are relevant to the subject, and able to explain why you agree with arguments.
Blooms hierarchy.

Example of good critical analyse is the 9\11 bombings happening with the times magazine cover.
When we see this we think of the bombing we can see words such as anti-western terrorism and skyline destroyed, which is critically correct, however when we see this image,
Straight away this Image is inappropriate because we think of the 9/11 bombings and how many people died in this 'attack', however this album was released in 2001 before the bombing actually happened, therefore if the twin towers was never attacked this image wouldn't be in such trouble and never question by the FBI about there image and possible involvement in it.

Lecture on subculture and style notes

Definition of subculture is a group of people with culture which differentials them.from the larger culture e.g. steam punk, goth,
Downtown and z boys 2001 film.
Role of female skaters
Ian Borden 'performing the city'
This is when skateboard became more political with using the city as a playground so a hand railing which is used for safety becomes the reverse role and becomes a rail to be grindend on.
Re using space which was once "crap into a nice area for skaters but it does look like a area before you go into a shopping area l.
Though sub culture and lords of downtown film showing that it creates a new way of life and a new family
Parkour freerunning
Pretty much the city is the playground,
Jump London. Yamasaki???.
Graffiti art/ subculture, nancy McDonald
Lv the wall its just a word it doesn't define if you are black or white male female its just a word.
This allows people to escape who they really are there and a lot of female graffiti writers project there views ether political or.sexually, this shows a completely different way life.
Female subcultures are hidden but sometimes they come out very strong such as biker girls and in Japan/China lotia, mod girl.
Quadrophenia film in 1979 looking at the life after the working day and creating this other life.
Though this we find the different levels from the hard core over the top to people just looking like them and being fake, because its easy to copy hard to be that something.
Happy girl.
Middle class girls before they settle ect. But this had a effect of the good and bad happy girls.
Riot grrrl mid 1990's
Punk girls doing the punk thing really, nothing more or less.
What makes something a true subculture?
With a lot of things there is a style for whatever it may be e.g. grunge was a style with no meaning, compared to punk in the 90's but if it is a true subculture it becomes dead or finished depending on how much effected things became that's why punk is dead but goth is alive because punk got out of hand, goth just sticks with it self and some places such as whitby has goth weekend which embraces the subculture.
Subculture and punk made the safety pin turn into something else, buy using it to piece the ear.
The hoodie is a example as it has become a evil thing especially if its black with no logo on it.
Teddy boy culture was a way to escape claustopiha in the family house.
Skin heads (personally hate this the most) this is England film. (brooks film) the film explores the difference between the skin head culture and political and national.
Post subcultures in a rapid proliferation of images fashions and lifestyles it is un surprisingly difficult to pinpoint a subculture.

If.we divided the world.into different segments.we can see that the most things distributed are heading to the developed world and not to the LEDC therefore getting the moat out of their money leading to a profit. Then if its a newpaper the chances that the paper will be about the 3rd world is 10% compared to a family in the UK having a minor disater, which leads to the thinking of only us.

Ethics lecture notes

Ethics is it good?

How can I live in a unjustly society and keep my head held high?

What does it men to be a designer?

1964 Garland ' first things first'
It was a article about graphic designers and this was during the boom of advertising for the market and a bunch of artists felt like they were wasting their talent on marketing in a capitalist World.  Then ad busters in 2000 created a new manifesto.  In this they changed the tome of advertisement from caring to a waste and foolishness.
Nike " just do it". As busters just make it.

Encourage in this direction designers then apply their skills and imagination to sell dog biscuits ect...commercial work has always paid the bills but many graphic designers have now become like this.
A lot of us have grown used to goal logos and industry.
I you work to .market or advert who make anything you are unethical and just encouraging it when it should be challenged; however their is capital which is like the big boss character.
in 1964, 22 via com people signed a original call for their skills to be put to worthwhile use.  Today we renew their manifesto in expectation that no more decades will pass before it is taken to heart.
There is still the confusion of advertising and capitalism and trying to fined were the line is.
Meme war fair, its basically a unit of information which jumps from brain to brain but its catchy and sticks to the person then other memes compete therefore who ever has the best meme controls the money/ world really.
Victor Papanek, 1971, writes boobs which are very powerful. A lot of his work was slaying advertising. He just wanted to people to use their skills to the fullest and not wasted.  Papanek beer can automobile can bumper 1971.

This leads back to the question of 'how do we determine what is good?' This heads on to capitalism and how do we escape from this?  But who is right or is no one right?

Subjective relativism.
+ there are no universal moral norms of right and wrong
+ all persons decides right and wrong
Cultural relativism
+ the ethical theory that what's right or wrong depends on place and time
Divine command theory
+ good actions are aligned with the will of god
+ bad .actions are contrary to the will of god
+ the holy book helps make decisions.
Kantianism
People wills should be based on moral rules
Therefore its important that our actions are .based on appropriate moral rules.
To determine when a moral rule is appropriate Kant proposed which one is the better of two evils basically.
Utilitarianism
Also know as greatest happiness principle
If some thing is good it increases happiness good
Of something is bad it decreases happiness Bad
Social contract theory
An agreement between individuals held together by common interest. We trade some of our own liberty for a stable society.
Margete thacher smashed this.
