I, Robot (2004) (Trailer here)
This film was based upon the stories by Isaac Asimov and the film stays true to the books.
So why am I looking at this film?
The setting is the not too far into the future and looking at the quote this why the director took this step.
"I wanted this setting so people can believe it and relate to our world" he says in the behind the scenes of 'I,Robot'.
I really like this because it shows the development of technology from current day to the setting of 'I,Robot'. Secondly with the trailer link above I enjoy the cut to text with VFX phrases and Sci-Fi elements which break up the action in the trailer, I believe that I will have to do this type of VFX in my film in order to add to the storytelling aspect as well as the genre.
So how is the story told?
I think this story is well done as it looks at the aspect of what will happen if robots take over the world, however I saw something interesting in the interrogation scene with Will Smith's character and the robot 'Sonny' played by Alan Tudyk.
(If link above is broken click here)
Throughout this scene, we come across "Sonny" a robot which is completely different from the usual, as we find out he has emotions which robots don't usually have, so why is this? which his creator gave him and I believe because his name is "Sonny" it relates to son, a small child who doesn't know much about the world yet. As the scene progresses you can see this more by the way the he acts and by visual imagery of his facial expressions changing and adapting! Psychologically the audience begins to care for the character because of his humanistic features.
Did the director do this on purpose? Possibly he did, which is what I believe.
Another point in this is the trailer link/video and how it tells parts of the story and this might be a consideration to the practical piece?
